CHS Marching Band Places Second in National Competition

The Carmel High School Marching Band placed second in the Bands of America (BOA) Grand Nationals Championship on Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium, after placing first in the Super Regionals on Nov. 9.

Director Chris Kreke said, “I’m so thrilled with the students’ performances throughout the Grand Nationals competition.  It was incredible to watch the show that has been in the design process since last January finally be fully realized and come to life through these kids.  I could not be more proud of the way all of the students, staff, and parents came together to make this yet another ground breaking year for the Marching Greyhounds.”

The Greyhounds won the Visual Caption award during this year’s finals competition, with previous awards for the Music Caption in 2008, 2011 and 2013. The original music for the 2013 show was composed by Richard Saucedo, Michael McIntosh and Jeff Queen.

2013 Bands of America
Indianapolis Super Regional Champions

On Saturday evening, November 9, 2013, the Carmel Marching Band was named Champion in the Bands of America Indianapolis Super Regional competition.  38 bands from across the nation, primarily from the Midwest, performed in competition with the bands divided into 4 classes (A,AA,AAA,AAAA) by band size.

“I’m so proud of what our students, parents, and staff members have accomplished this season.  It’s truly a labor of love and a total team effort to make a production of this scale come to life.  I absolutely cannot wait to see these kids have the performance of a lifetime on Saturday night at Grand National Finals.  Whatever the results, I know that they will carry the lessons learned and the friendships they have developed through the rest of their lives.”

In preliminary results, Carmel won (or tied) all captions for Outstanding Music (tied with Avon), Outstanding General Effect and Outstanding Visual.  Following Carmel in second place was Avon(IN) HS, with Lake Central(IN) HS placing third.

Help Dreams Come True!

The kids of this year’s Carmel Marching Greyhounds are Dreaming Big!

A message from Carmel Marching Greyhound

Director – Chris Kreke:

The kids of this year’s Carmel High School Marching Band are dreaming big. In addition to defending their 2012 ISSMA State and Bands of America Grand Nationals Championships, the Marching Greyhounds have accepted an invitation to perform in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena on January 1, 2014. This is a prestigious honor and a once in a lifetime opportunity.

This year the theme of the Rose Parade is “Dreams Come True.” Most high school marching bands can only dream of one day participating in the granddaddy of them all. The Carmel Marching Band has worked extremely hard to earn its invitation to the Rose Parade. But it won’t be easy to raise the funds necessary to transport 300 students, chaperones and staff to California. It is the goal of the Carmel High School Band Boosters to help make the dream of marching in the Rose Parade a reality for each and every band member. And, we need the support of the family and friends of the band members, the Carmel Marching Greyhound Alumni and their friends and family, and the entire Carmel Community to achieve our goal.

Can you imagine the thrill when these kids — our kids — step off the line in front of a million people lining the parade route and 100 times as many watching on TV? It’s enough to get them believing that anything is possible if you work towards your dreams.

And isn’t that the kind of thinking we want to encourage in these extraordinary kids of Carmel?

Please give generously. Please share the dream.

Thank you,

Chris Kreke
